about
Based on the Greek myth of how Echo became an echo and Narcissus became a flower.
lyrics
There was once, long ago, in a far off land
A glade in which some wood nymphs played, dancing hand in hand
One day they were playing hide and seek trying to find Echo
When they came across a handsome youth with his arrows and his bow
Taking fright they ran away, all except one
Echo was drawn to him like a flower to the sun
She tried to call she tried to speak until her voice was sore
But she could only reiterate the last word said before
Ohh oh Echo, Echo
Ohh oh Echo
Then the youth called to his hunting friends "Hey, I'm here!"
"Here!" said Echo joyfully, appearing from nowhere
"Who are you?" he said amazed to see a maid so fair
"You" she echoed hopefully, words trembling in the air
Narcissus tried to talk with her but it was plain to see
Although she was so beautiful, it couldn't ever be
So he walked away, nothing more to say, with his arrows and his bow
But the one in Echo's aching heart caused bitter tears to flow
Ohh oh Echo, Echo
Ohh oh Echo
She followed her Narcissus, she followed every day
She echoed every word he said till she faded away
So nothing but her voice was heard when he shouted to his friends
But the Queen of Love , she saw it all, and planned her revenge
He felt a thirst and wandered, looking for a pool
She led him to a magic one, crystal clear and cool
As he knelt down to drink his fill, he suddenly stopped to stare
For the face smiling up at him was way beyond compare
Ohh oh Echo, Echo
Ohh oh Echo
Well he tried to catch this lovely being, he tried and tried again
But he couldn't catch his own reflection, so he tried in vain
When he knew the pain that Echo felt for many a desperate hour
The gods at last. took pity...and changed him to a flower
Before his lips gave nothing but a sweet and silent fragrance
From the open heart of a snow white flower of exquisite elegance
He whispered with his last breath "Oh my Beloved..."
Echo's last reply to him was..."My Beloved"
